Interesting, that an organisation that represents the richest people in the World, should publish a report on inequality, which has been caused by its members. The World Economic Foundation (WEF) has done little to improve equality or to combat climate change. If anything, things have got worse, since the publication of ‘The Spirit Level’ in 2009: https://www.equalitytrust.org.uk/resources/the-spirit-level!
In fact, things have only got worse since the formation of the Club of Rome (1970) and the publication of its report ‘Limits to Growth’ 1972: http://www.donellameadows.org/wp-content/userfiles/Limits-to-Growth-digital-scan-version.pdf.
The same can be said about the United Nations, Brundtland Report, ‘Our Common Future’, 1987: http://www.un-documents.net/our-common-future.pdf. An issue, with the Brundtland Report, was that it pushed Growth, as answer, which is what the WEF does, so well!
What is the real purpose of this new report, more ‘smoke and mirrors’?

Whilst our mainstream media continue with the media circus about the USA presidential nominations, the referendum on EU membership and the false allegations of anti-Semitism against those who support the Palestinians rights. Concerns have been raised by landlords, that those on Universal Credit, are in rent arrears? Which will come as no surprise, to any one with any commosense!
We still have a Government still hounding the least able in society. Whilst the rich get away with false expenses applications and avoiding tax. Money is wasted hounding the poorest in society, instead of assisting them and making their lives more worthwhile. A society which sits-by and allows the persecution and ridicule of the poor and meek, is not worthy of calling itself civilised!

David Cameron‘s Government has waged a nasty campaign against those least able in society. This is not what society as a whole wants, though the UK’s mass-media, help to stir-up hostility towards those less able in society. We have gone back to the bad old days of Robert Tressell and ‘The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists‘!

Unfortunately, the British Public is being betrayed by companies like IKEA. As the taxes they avoid paying, could be going towards the NHS, Education and Social Services. Also, by avoiding paying taxes, they are able to undercut competition, especially from small UK firms. It is a depressing state of affairs, especially when the tax-paying poor, are struggling to make ends meet. And people behind the likes of IKEA, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Starbucks and others, just get richer!

On a finite planet, with finite resources, it is impossible to have continuous growth. So why do our so-called, educated politicians think we can?

Unfortunately, Portugal, like the UK, is still pursuing a fossil fuel future, despite agreeing to the COP21 Paris agreement. The Portuguese government has even granted oil and gas producers licenses to drill, onshore and offshore the Algarve. Even though the area is part of Natura2000, is dependent of fishing, agriculture and tourism. Even with a (so-called) Socialist coalition government, it looks like drilling will go ahead. Instead of investing in energy efficiency and renewables! Though there are groups such as the Algarve Surfers and Marine Activities Association (ASMAA), fighting these proposals.

Even before the COP21 Paris event, some UK investors were calling on companies and local authorities to divest from fossil fuel companies. With groups such as Go fossil free and Friends of the Earth (FOE) pushing the message to divest.
Also with organisations like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) calling for most of the remaining fossil fuels to remain in the ground in their latest report IPCC 5th report. And Carbon Tracker’s report on Stranded assets danger zone, as well as others. The UK Government has increased subsidies for fossil fuels and pushing ahead with ‘fracking’.
The Government states it needs ‘fracking’ to ensure security of supply. But has shut down the last deep coal mine, in favour of imported coal? It is also heavily reliant on imported biomass, for incineration and co-firing? And new nuclear will be dependant on imported uranium imports?
We constantly hear from our politicians, mass media and climate change denialists, that renewables are heavily subsidised. When the truth is exactly the opposite, with fossil fuels and nuclear being heavily subsidised at the expense of the tax-payer and energy customer.
