I have always taken the UK Governments and UK NGOs boasting about the Climate Change Act and the UK’s reduction of CO2 to be utter nonsense, just pure ‘greenwash’, to put it politely.
One of those frequent fliers, is David Attenborough, who made his money flying around the Globe, with a large film crew in tow! Others like Bill McKibben and Naomi Klein, who also make money writing about consumerism and climate change, whilst flying all over the Globe. It is time we called out these hypocrites, boycott their work and stopped idolising them as some god/goddess. As Kevin Anderson points out, “Emissions relate very closely to income and that is because we use a lot more energy, but also then, above a certain threshold, it means we consume lots more goods. That stuff uses lots of energy; the raw material, the manufacturing of it, and then to import it.” And it is an exponential relationship.
The Degrowth Movement has been around since the financial collapse in 2008 (something that happens on a regularly). If something is out of balance, it oscillates, and if the wrong measure are taken to correct it, it just gets worse, till it finally breaks. This is what our economic and financial system is, badly out of balance and it is driving climate change, inequality and poverty.
In the UK we had the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) which Labour set-up, but basically ignored! The Conservatives, stopped funding it, and the English Green Party, also ignored a report published by the SDC; ‘Recession must make us question relentless pursuit of growth‘!
Reminds me a bit, of the days construction companies blacklisted people, who they thought were involved in trade union and health & safety action. Spread the net wide, ensuring you get as many people as possible, to silence the majority. Just as with the totally inhuman and unjust welfare sanctions, our legal system is becoming more and more a tool for the rich and corporations to keep people in their place.

As with the Kinder Scout mass trespass the authorities are trying to scare people from demonstrating against ‘fracking’. The mass trespass, changed the course of history in England, lets hope, the sacrifice of the four men sentenced, will bring about an end of oil and gas exploitation in the UK. Leading to a meaningful approach to climate change and not just hot air!

In Rosyth Dockyard, Fife, Scotland, are the decommissioned nuclear submarines of the Royal Navy. Dreadnought, the four Polaris nuclear missile submarines, Conqueror and Vanguard, surrounded by barbed wire and regularly monitored. That was some time ago and there may be more now in the basin, slowly rotting away, with the nuclear reactors still intact inside them. They need to be kept in the water, to keep the nuclear reactors cool, as they still produce heat. I have no idea, what radioactivity goes into the basin, then the Forth from these hulks. They have been sitting there for decades and yet, the UK Government wants to built more nuclear submarines? Even the so-called peacenik Jeremy Corbyn, wants to renew the Trident nuclear ballistic missile submarine fleet! When will this stupidity ever end?
